Empowering Regenerative Farmers for a Brighter Future.
The Steward Foundation
The Steward Foundation fights for equitable and regenerative agriculture by building healthy farmland and resilient communities. We target our support to the farmers working day in and day out to transform agriculture because we believe that lasting change grows from the ground up. By partnering with leaders throughout the food movement we advance the large-scale systemic changes needed to repair the environmental and social damage done by conventional commodity production.
Launched in 2019, The Steward Foundation is sponsored by Steward, a certified B-Corp providing private commercial loans and expert support services regenerative farmers and food producers need to expand and sustain their businesses.
Supporting Regenerative Agriculture
Agriculture is dynamic and complex, requiring a holistic approach to place-specific conditions; what may be appropriate in one context can be inappropriate in others. When The Steward Foundation talks about our support for regenerative agriculture, we focus on projects that are:
-
Regenerative
Regenerative methods that increase biodiversity, enrich soils, improve watershed health, sequester more carbon than they release, and enhance ecosystem services.
-
Human Scale
Human-scale operations that engage more “hands on the land” and establish a productive and restorative scale of agricultural management.
-
Equitable
Equitable systems and businesses that support underserved groups and empower communities.
-
Sustainable
Sustainable approaches that sustain working lands, natural resources, and local communities.
-
Appropriate
Appropriate right-sized and suitable for a specific community, location, or operation.
